Whiskey Barrel Rain Barrel

I needed a stand for my rain barrel. This is what I did. I bought a used whiskey barrel off a guy on craigslist. He was getting them from a brewery in wisconsin. It was named something rivers. They used it to age beer in. Must have been some kind of cherry beer cause it turned out to be about a quarter filled with cherries. They were gross by the time we opened it up, but you could still smell the alchohol on it. This was early 2014. It's 2017 now and the setup is functioning well. The barrel is visually interesting and it holds water well. I was hoping to get at least five years out of it and that doesn't seem like it will be a problem. The platform actually extends about a foot and a half underground. The legs are connected together underground to prevent any possibility of movement. At the bottom of the hole I spread a couple bags of sand to stabilize the ground and help keep the wood dry. It works in my imagination. The wood I used was old pressure treated deck boards I had laying around.
